BATISMO / BAPTISM

A origem e o fundamento do Batismo cristão é Jesus. Antes de iniciar o seu ministério público, Jesus submeteu-se ao batismo ministrado por João Batista. As águas não o purificaram; purificou as águas... Jesus não precisava de ser batizado porque era totalmente fiel à vontade do seu Pai e isento de pecado. Contudo, ele quis demonstrar a sua solidariedade com os seres humanos a fim de reconciliá-los com o Pai. Ao ordenar a seus discípulos que batizassem todas as nações, ele estabeleceu o meio pelo qual as pessoas morreriam para o pecado – original e atual – e começariam a viver uma nova vida com Deus.

No Batismo, o Espírito Santo move-nos a responder ao apelo de Cristo à santidade. No Batismo, somos chamados a caminhar na luz de Cristo e a confiar na sua sabedoria. Somos convidados a submeter os nossos corações a Cristo com um amor cada vez mais profundo.

Pelo Batismo, tornamo-nos filhos de Deus e membros da família da fé. As crianças devem ser batizadas na comunidade de fé a que pertencem os seus pais, ou seja, na paróquia em que estão inscritos e são membros ativos. Espera-se que os pais participem na preparação para o batismo. Os padrinhos devem ser católicos praticantes, batizados e crismados.

The origin and foundation of Christian Baptism is Jesus. Before starting his public ministry, Jesus submitted himself to the baptism given by John the Baptist. The waters did not purify him; he cleansed the waters . . . Jesus did not need to be baptized because he was totally faithful to the will of his Father and free from sin. However, he wanted to show his solidarity with human beings in order to reconcile them to the Father. By commanding his disciples to baptize all nations, he established the means by which people would die to sin – Original and Actual – and begin to live a new life with God.

In Baptism, the Holy Spirit moves us to answer Christ's call to holiness. In Baptism, we are asked to walk by the light of Christ and to trust in his wisdom. We are invited to submit our hearts to Christ with ever deeper love.

Through Baptism, we become Children of God and members of the household of faith. Children should be baptized in the faith community to which their parents belong, that is, the parish in which they are registered and active members. Parents are expected to attend Pre-Baptismal instruction. Godparents must be practicing Catholics who have been baptized and confirmed.

Por favor, ligue para o Cartório Paroquial (973-589-8433) para agendar o batismo da sua criança e inscrevê-lo/a nas sessões de preparação. Os batismos (para bebés e crianças dos 1 aos 7 anos) são celebrados todos os domingos às 1:30 p.m. No 1º e 3º Domingo do mês os Baptismos são celebrados em português (junho, julho e agosto às 12:45 p.m. no 1º e 3º Domingo). Não se realizam batismos durante a Semana Santa ou em qualquer festa solene que ocorra a um domingo.

Please call the Rectory (973-589-8433) to arrange for your child's baptism and to register for classes. Baptisms (for infants and children ages 1 to 7) are celebrated every Sunday at 1:30 p.m. On the 2nd and 4th Sundays Baptisms are celebrated in English (June, July, and August at 12:45 PM, on the 1st and 3rd Sunday). No Baptisms are performed during the Holy Week, or any Solemn Feast that falls on Sunday.

A reserva deve ser feita com um mês de antecedência; a participação numa sessão de preparação para os pais e padrinhos é necessária; a celebração do Baptismo é ao Domingo após a missa das 11:30 a.m. Todos as família devem participar nesta Divina Liturgia da Missa.

A preparação é na primeira quinta-feira do mês em português.

RESERVE A BAPTISM

Reservations need to be made one month prior to the Baptism; one session of preparation for parents and godparents is required; the celebration of Baptism takes place every Sunday after the 11:30 a.m. Mass. All families ought to participate at this Divine Liturgy of the Mass.

Preparation is on the second Thursday of the month in English.
