O primeiro leitor foi o próprio Cristo. Quando iniciou o seu ministério terreno, foi convidado a proclamar a palavra de Deus na assembleia. Pegou no rolo e leu: “O Espírito do Senhor está sobre mim, porque me ungiu para anunciar a Boa Nova aos aflitos. Enviou-me a proclamar a liberdade aos cativos, vista aos cegos, para libertar os oprimidos e proclamar o ano da graça do Senhor”. (Lucas 4:16-30) Jesus estava a ler sobre si mesmo. A Palavra de Deus, as Escrituras, foi proclamada pela própria Palavra de Deus: Cristo Jesus!

Um leitor é alguém que ama Cristo e deseja que todos O conheçam pela fé, através da proclamação das Boas Novas das Escrituras. Procura nutrir o seu relacionamento com o Senhor através da sua própria devoção em oração e meditação na Palavra. Usam o dom da palavra que Deus lhes deu para revelar a Palavra e torná-la viva para a assembleia, que ouve a voz de Deus através da sua proclamação.

Se tem interesse em tornar-se um leitor, tudo o que precisa é o desejo de crescer na sua relação com o Senhor das Escrituras, uma leitura clara e um compromisso com as liturgias nos dias em que estiver escalado para servir.

The first lector was Christ himself. When he began his earthly ministry, he was invited to proclaim the word of God in the assembly. He took the scroll and read, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim a year of favor from the Lord.” (Luke 4:16-30) Jesus was reading about himself. The Word of God, the scripture, was proclaimed by the Word of God himself: Christ Jesus!

A lector is someone who has a love for Christ and desires that all come to know him through faith by the proclamation of the Good News of scripture. They seek to nurture their relationship with the Lord through their own devotion of prayer and meditation on the Word. They use their God-given gift of speech to break open the Word and to make the Word come alive for the assembly, who hears the voice of God through their proclamation.

If you are interested in becoming a lector, all you need is a desire to grow in your relationship with the Lord of the scriptures, a clear dictation, and a commitment to the Liturgies when you are scheduled to serve.

Os nossos leitores participam nas liturgias, especialmente na Divina Liturgia da Missa, lendo as Sagradas Escrituras, oferecendo a Oração dos Fiéis e auxiliando o celebrante quando solicitado. Os novos leitores complementam o seu conhecimento das partes da Missa (tanto as rotineiras como as especiais) numa orientação individual e, em seguida, participam em reuniões periódicas de atualização com os seus colegas leigos. Após a orientação, os leitores das missas dominicais são escalados trimestralmente para servir numa missa à sua escolha (normalmente 3 a 4 vezes a cada 3 meses). Os leitores das missas durante a semana e dos dias santos de guarda são escalados semanalmente.

Our Lectors participate in the Liturgies, especially the Divine Liturgy of the Mass by reading Holy Scriptures, offering the Prayer of the Faithful, and otherwise assisting the Celebrant when requested. New Lectors supplement their knowledge of the parts of the Mass (both routine and special) in an individual orientation and then join their fellow lay ministers in periodic refreshers. After orientation, Lectors for Sunday masses are scheduled quarterly to serve one mass of their choice (typically serving 3-4 times in each 3-month period). Lectors for weekday Masses and Holy Days of Obligation are scheduled weekly.
