SAGRADAS ORDENS / HOLY ORDERS

A palavra "Vocação" é o equivalente a chamamento, orientação, inclinação para determinado estado ou actividade. A Igreja é uma comunidade hierarquizada de pessoas marcadas pela graça de Deus. Nela se entra pela graça do Baptismo, a primeira das vocações cristãs. Vocação comum a todos os baptizados é dar testemunho da sua fé ao longo de toda a sua vida.

Mas há os que são chamados a maior entrega a este testemunho. Em certo sentido começa pelos que, pela realização da vocação matrimonial, dão testemunho do amor esponsal de Cristo pela sua Igreja, à qual dão os filhos. Mais radicais, porém, são as vocações de plena consagração ao serviço e amor de Deus, da Igreja e dos irmãos: as vocações marcadas pelo sacramento da Ordem, que actuam na Igreja oficialmente em nome de Jesus Cristo; e as vocações definidas pelos votos dos conselhos evangélicos, sobretudo em institutos reconhecidos pela Igreja. Estas últimas, não fazendo parte da essência hierárquica da Igreja, fazem parte, no entanto, da sua vida e santidade (Código Direito Canónico 207,2).

Estas diversas vocações encontram-se claramente definidas nos documentos do Concícilio Vaticano II (especialmente Lumen Gentium, Christus Dominus, Presbyterorum Ordinis, Perfectae Caritatis, Optatam Totius) e no novo Códico Direito Canónico (especialmente no Livro II sobre “O Povo de Deus”).

Todos devemos rezar por um aumento das vocações para o sacerdócio e para a vida religiosa nas nossas paróquias e famílias. É claro que também devemos rezar por mais casamentos fiéis e santos.

VOCAÇÕES SACERDOTAIS

Desde o momento da conceção de Jesus no seio de Maria até à sua Ressurreição, Ele foi cheio do Espírito Santo. Em linguagem bíblica, Ele foi ungido pelo Espírito Santo e, assim, estabelecido por Deus Pai como nosso sumo sacerdote. Como Senhor Ressuscitado, Ele continua a ser o nosso sumo sacerdote... Embora todos os batizados participem do sacerdócio de Cristo, o sacerdócio ministerial participa-o de modo especial através do Sacramento da Ordem.

A ordenação sacerdotal é sempre um chamamento e um dom de Deus. Cristo lembrou aos seus Apóstolos que precisavam de pedir ao Senhor da seara que enviasse trabalhadores para a seara. Aqueles que procuram o sacerdócio respondem generosamente ao chamamento de Deus usando as palavras do profeta: "Eis-me aqui, envia-me" (Is 6,8). Este chamamento de Deus pode ser reconhecido e compreendido pelos sinais diários que revelam a sua vontade àqueles que estão encarregados de discernir a vocação do candidato.

The word "Vocation" is the equivalent of a calling, guidance, or inclination toward a particular state or activity. The Church is a hierarchical community of people marked by God's grace. One enters it through the grace of Baptism, the first of Christian vocations. A vocation common to all the baptized is to bear witness to their faith throughout their lives.

But there are those who are called to a greater commitment to this witness. In a certain sense, it begins with those who, through the fulfillment of the vocation of marriage, bear witness to the spousal love of Christ for his Church, to which they give their children. More radical, however, are the vocations of full consecration to the service and love of God, the Church, and one's brothers and sisters: the vocations marked by the sacrament of Holy Orders, which act in the Church officially in the name of Jesus Christ; and the vocations defined by the vows of the evangelical counsels, especially in institutes recognized by the Church. These latter, while not part of the hierarchical essence of the Church, are nevertheless part of its life and holiness (Code of Canon Law CDC 207,2).

These diverse vocations are clearly defined in the documents of the Vatican Council II (especially Lumen Gentium, Christus Dominus, Presbyterorum Ordinis, Perfectae Caritatis, Optatam Totius) and in the new Code of Canon Law (especially in Book II on "The People of God").

We all must pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life from among our parish and families. Of course, we must also pray for more faithful, holy marriages.

PRIESTLY VOCATIONS

From the moment of Jesus' conception in the womb of Mary until his Resurrection, he was filled with the Holy Spirit. In biblical language, he was anointed by the Holy Spirit and thus established by God the Father as our high priest. As Risen Lord, he remains our high priest... While all the baptized share in Christ's priesthood, the ministerial priesthood shares this through the Sacrament of Holy Orders in a special way.

Ordination to the priesthood is always a call and a gift from God. Christ reminded his Apostles that they needed to ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into the harvest. Those who seek priesthood respond generously to God's call using the words of the prophet, "Here I am, send me" (Is 6:8). This call from God can be recognized and understood from the daily signs that disclose his will to those in charge of discerning the vocation of the candidate.

Vida Religiosa; Vida religiosa contemplativa; Vida religiosa apostólica; Virgens Consagradas e Institutos Seculares. São sacerdotes, irmãos ou irmãs em comunidades que abraçam a espiritualidade, o carisma e os ensinamentos do fundador da comunidade, chamando ao seu modo de vida vida religiosa. Os membros destas comunidades fazem votos de pobreza, castidade celibatária e obediência.

CONSECRATED LIFE

Some of the faithful are offered a special gift, an opportunity to love and serve God and his Church in a way that demands a voluntary and personal commitment of one’s whole life to the exclusive love and service of God. At the heart of a call to consecrated life is a desire to give oneself in love to God in a way so total that the pursuit of union with God makes it impossible for anything or anyone to be more central. This call and commitment is called a “vocation to consecrated life”.

FORMS OF CONSECRATED LIFE
Religious Life; Contemplative religious life; Apostolic religious life; Consecrated Virgins and Secular Institutes. They are Priests, Brothers or Sisters in Communities that embrace the spirituality, the charism, and the teachings of the Community’s founder call their way of life Religious life. Members of these Communities take vows of poverty, celibate chastity, and obedience.
