SOCIEDADE DO SANTO NOME / HOLY NAME SOCIETY

“Por isso mesmo é que Deus o elevou acima de tudo e lhe concedeu o nome que está acima de todo o nome, para que, ao nome de Jesus, se dobrem todos os joelhos, os dos seres que estão no céu, na terra e debaixo da terra; e toda a língua proclame: 'Jesus Cristo é o Senhor!', para glória de Deus Pai.”

A Sociedade do Santo Nome é uma organização para homens católicos. A Sociedade do Santo Nome, formalmente conhecida como Confraria do Santíssimo Nome de Deus e de Jesus, é uma confraria católica de leigos e uma das várias que estão ao cuidado da Ordem Dominicana. Está aberta a todos os adultos católicos. O principal objetivo da sociedade é gerar reverência ao Santo Nome de Deus e a Jesus Cristo; dedica-se também a fazer reparações, em particular, por blasfémia, perjúrio e imoralidade.

“Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

The Holy Name Society is an organization for Catholic men. The Society of the Holy Name, formally known as the Confraternity of the Most Holy Name of God and Jesus, is a Catholic confraternity of the laity and is one of several which are under the care of the Dominican Order. It is open to all Catholic adults. The primary object of the society is to beget reverence for the Holy Name of God and Jesus Christ; it is also dedicated to making reparations, in particular, for blasphemy, perjury and immorality.

A Sociedade também realiza eventos comunitários em parceria com a Confraria de Nossa Senhora do Rosário. Eventos em conjunto inclui: o Cozido à Portuguêsa (antes da quaresma); Festa do Dia da Mães (no 2º Domingo de Maio); Magusto de São Martinho (domingo próximo do 11 de Novembro).

A sociedade reúne-se todos os segundos domingos do mês para a Missa das 11:30 PM e na segunda terça-feira do mês, no porão (basement) da Casa Paroquial, após a missa das 7:30 PM.

The Society also organizes community events in partnership with the Holy Rosary Society. Joint events include: Cozido à Portuguesa (before Lent); Mother's Day celebration (on the 2nd Sunday of May); and the St. Martin's Day Chestnut Roast (the Sunday closest to November 11th).

The society meets every 2nd Sunday of the month for the 11:30 AM Mass and on the 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Rectory´s basement after the Mass at 7:30 PM.
